Hello from central Florida

There are many, many instances of dogs appearing to do well around chickens. But the first chance they have, with no one around supervising them, they massacre the flock.

If you remember, will you update me on the dogs? I'm always curious to hear experiences with introducing chickens of dogs! I hope they all work out together! I do have a friend who free ranges her dogs and chickens together and they do well!

I will do my best to remember, I too hope they do well but if not I can easily keep the chickens in their enclosed area all day. I have decided to make the fenced in area for them larger. I was just going to fence in directly behind my garage, which is about 400sqft, but I am now going to fence in that whole corner of the yard for them which will given the chickens about 1800sqft of space to roam around during the day. Half of it is shaded so it'll be a good area for them.

That's what I am afraid of, but I figure the first few times I let them out together I will have to keep a close eye on them. One positive thing is that the dogs are obedient so if I holler at them they'll listen. At least in every circumstance so far they have, it will be a real test for them with the extra distractions running around the yard.
