Hello all! I have been using this site for months in preparation for our plans to get chickens, and finally took the plunge and registered! This is a FANTASTIC resource!!!! Here is the quick and dirty:

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I am new to chickens, though I had a friend with some as a child, and learned about them a bit in college.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

We currently have 6 chicks that are one week old.

(3) What breeds do you have?

We have one buff Orpington, one Rhode Island Red, and four Easter Eggers.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

It comes up whenever you google anything related to chickens, so I knew it must be a good site!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I like to spend time outdoors with my family including camping, biking, and swimming.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have a wonderful husband and three boys ages 6, 4, and 10 months. I am a veterinarian, though new to chickens, so I am trying to remember what little they taught us in school. I will be taking lots of continuing ed courses on chickens from now on! Hopefully soon I will be able to see chickens that are ill in our area. I am very excited to be starting our flock, and can't wait to learn and share in this forum!

Until next time,
Jess

I started with 6 chicks. I stumbled across BYC when I was trying to decide what types to get. Now I have, well I can only say a BUNCH of them. RIR, Comet, BO, WO, EE, Turken, BA, Polish, and Silkies. You just gotta have Silkies.

Hello fellow Floridian! Welcome! I too started out with 6 chicks last spring. I now have 13 chickens and 24 or so eggs in the incubator that all look like they are developing well for next week's hatch date. It is addictive!
