Greetings! I'm a new member from Central Ohio. I live just east of Columbus on a few acres with my husband, new chickens, three cats, and lots of bee hives! I work in IT as my day job and am a beekeeper, gardener, and now chicken keeper in my free time.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I'm a brand new chicken keeper as of May of this year. I've been wanting chickens for many years now and this spring was the right time to go ahead and get started.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I have six chickens at the moment. I purchased a variety of six "pullets" from Meyer Hatchery this May. Unfortunately, two of those six pullets turned out to be roosters, so I'm currently trying to re-home at least one of them, preferably both. I don't think I'm ready to go the bachelor flock route just yet. When I realized I had roosters and decided to consider keeping one, my first instance of Chicken Math struck and I went ahead and ordered three more hens to add to my flock and hopefully get a better roo to hen ratio in case I keep one of the roos. They'll be joining the flock later this month.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Barnevelder, Green Queen, Cream Legbar, Easter Egger, Austra White

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I'm still pretty new at this, but I get so much enjoyment and relaxation out of just sitting and watching these little creatures. They're funny and engaging.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Bee keeping, gardening (especially tomatoes!), reading, knitting

(6) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I kept seeing BYC threads pop up in Google search results of all my chicken searches and questions. I find the forums to be very helpful and decided to join so I can start interacting as a member.
