Hi everyone,
We just got our small flock going here in Tumalo. My two daughters were really begging me to get chickens and since they have daddy wrapped around their little fingers I obliged. Plus, I have two teenage sons who sometimes eat 6 eggs each for breakfast-- sounded like laying chickens might not be a bad idea. Based on very scientific research, (looking through the scrap wood pile out back) I determined the best set up for a henhouse. We currently have 12 chicks: 4 each of Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rock, and Australorps. We would've gotten 4 Araucanas as well but the local feed store won't have any more of those for a few weeks-- and I am a firm believer in buying local (they are just around the corner...)

Looking forward to having fun with them and eggs sometime this summer! Thanks for reading.

Hi, OJ, glad you found us and WELCOME to the wonderful would of poultry!

There is a section here on coops, and one word of advice: get going in it, ASAP! Can't tell you how many times I've seen folks post that their coop isn't built and the chicks have outgrown their brooders. You can find a ton of ideas and lots of folks to help with feedback, should you have questions!

Keep those babies safe, and you'll have plenty of good years of fresh farm eggs from them!
