Hi there! I'm Katie and I'm relatively new to chicken ownership. I have a flock of 11 chicks (7 weeks old today!) Mixed breeds: (2)olive eggers, (3) cream legbars, golden laced cochin, cochin cross, black Marans, black sex-link, red sex-link, and a golden laced polish(she's my favorite!). I named them all after some of my favorite songs (Mary Jane, Caroline, Jenny, Jolene, Rita, Georgia, Maggie May, Jessie, Valerie, Lucy and Cecilia) I've waited for years to finally be able to have chickens. We finished our dream home on some acreage outside of the city limits last spring, so this year was FINALLY the time! My husband and I have three kiddos (9,7, almost 5). I am a financial advisor and I also own a custom decorated cookie business out of my home. I am not allowed to have pets in my house (PA Dept of Ag regulation for my cookie business) so sadly Cecilia will never be a house chicken as much as I would love her to be ;) My current struggle is trying to get my silly little Polish to go into the coop at night with her sisters. She's scared to use the ramp so I end up shuffling her up every night. She very well could be playing me and just wants to say goodnight and get airlifted like a princess onto the roost

Welcome!
Yes I looked into regulations because my mom has a home baking business in Maine- it appeared we needed to be able to close the kitchen completely down here (ie have doors) because I have pets during the hours she would be doing business baking.

Enjoy your chickens!
Yes that's exactly how it is here, and we have an open concept home so there would be no way I could close it off. Truthfully, my husband is very thankful that I'm not allowed to have them in the house :lau
