Hello! My name is Jordan, I am 18, and I have been raising my fowl since age 16. Since I am fairly new to raising chickens, I figured signing up here would be a good idea (for help, advice, etc.), so here I am now!
I first got my chickens from an AP biology class in high school (we had to raise a chicken and study its behavior as it grew, and I decided to take mine and a friend's home), and have helped keep them healthy and well fed since then. One is a plymouth rock, one is a buff orpington, and I recently was handed a silver-laced wyandotte from a friend. I also have a white coturnix quail (though she seems to have some health issues concerning her growth).
My favorite parts of raising backyard chickens would be:
- not having to shop for eggs as often
- seeing them grow into their big-chick feathers
- the parental warmth you get from spoiling them and keeping them healthy.
Some other hobbies of mine would be art, science, and cosmetics. I also deeply enjoy gardening and caring for insects and other
My other pets consist of (keep in mind, I have a family that I live with, so I'm not the only individual caring for these animals):
- three cats
- seven ferrets
- a bearded dragon
- two rats
- and a simply uncountable amount of garden snails.
