Chicagoland
I'm Pete from the Chicagoland area, as noted below when I was younger I recieved a chick from a farmer at a animal fair for free and it was great! I had it for about a year and then someone stole it with the cage from my back yard. :*(

Currently I'm looking into having some fun hatching some quail, maybe some chicks and a few ducks. Maybe give them out to other kids or farmers to raise. I'll probably keep a few to get fresh eggs to hatch some more. Who knows, I might get addicted to it and just quit my job and do it full time.. :p

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

No, I had a chick when i was younger and it grew in our back yard eating all the bugs and it was the only one so it became attached to me like if I was the mother. Sat on my hands, followed me, was pretty cool. It was a Polish chicken.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

Googleing about Quail/Incubators I found this place

Hope to hear and learn from everyone about their experiences.

Thank you for the warm welcome. Unfortunately my town does not allow chickens closer then 450ft i think from any residence, so anyone that lives near Chicago knows that land like that is expensive and hard to come by. That's why I'm focusing on Quail, it specifically states in the laws "chickens, goats, cows" but nothing about any other birds. :) My parents still live in the City so maybe I'll have a few chickens at their house..

Great article in the Trib. I actually work for the Trib, I have to find out who this author is. :)

1muttsfan, what part of the Michigan are you from? I spend some time up in the Iron Mountain area, know a lot of farmers up there. Only could wish to move up there one day. Beautiful country!!!!!!
