Next month my family and I are moving back to my hometown in western North Carolina from our current home in the Denver metro area. We have been limping along here without a yard of our own for a while but it is becoming harder and harder to be away from the country, especially now that we have young kids. When we move next month, we will be starting our first tiny homestead and the thing we're most excited to try is - you guessed it - chickens! I've never had my own chickens but my grandmother owned a few and I've done pet-sitting in the past for friends who have a medium-large flock. We're doing as much research as we can leading up to when we purchase our chicks and are excited to have found a good old-fashioned forum community apart from Facebook!
