Hello, BackYard Chicken folks! I live on a shady acre near the Connecticut shoreline. We got chickens because our children wanted pets and we also wanted fresh, healthy eggs. So far, we have found the chickens to be a lot of fun and the eggs are great, but we still have a lot to learn about raising chickens!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I got my chicks last spring and had never owned chickens before, except for when I was too young to remember my family had a rooster and a duck.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I had six, but one died last weekend.

(3) What breeds do you have?
2 Amber Links, 1 Barred Rock, 2 that were sold to me as Araucanas, but are probably Easter Eggers because one lays tan eggs.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Posts often come up from here when I do a Google search for something chicken-related.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I also love to garden, read, and sew.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have two children, ages 5 & 7, no other pets, am a stay-at-home mom at the moment/former English teacher.

Glad you joined us!

I love sewing too! Started out making dresses for my daughter and now that she’s “almost eleven” and too cool for my handmade goods, I’ve started sewing quilts. Any current sewing projects?

There are so many great boards here filled with friendly people and great resources. Make yourself to home! :)
