Hey everyone, just wanted to give a big shout out from our small family farm in Corinth, Maine. We've just started up last year and have about 20 chickens (Barred Rock, Buff Orphington, Gold Laced Wyndottes), 2 breeds of ducks (Pekin, and Indian Runners- Fawn and White and Chocolate) Some goats ( Lamanchas a Nubian, and a Nubian Lamancha cross) a trio of New Zealand crosses and two Katahdin Sheep. Things over here are absolutely crazy most days and it seems like the animals are always into something. My dog's latest habit is attempting to herd all the chickens together even though she's a beagle/lab mix and all she's really doing is upsetting the hen house. Most days we have an over flow of eggs that we just don't know what to do with, so coming here I eventually hope to get advice on how I can rid myself of the dozens of eggs we get!

You could sell your excess eggs. You could boil or scramble them and feed back to the chickens. You don't want to feed them raw because they may develop a taste for that and start breaking eggs and eating them. You could reward your neighbors for good(!) behavior, or donate extra eggs to food pantries etc.

Those are actually some great ideas! I know who's going to be attempting to sell eggs today!

! Pleased to have you with us! Glad you entered the chicken universe! I agree with drumstick - you might sell the eggs, or barter. I traded a guy several dozen for some lumber I needed to use to build a turkey coop! Good luck to you!

Thanks guys for the welcomes, I've been thinking of coming here for a while, but I kept putting it off and I'm really starting to wish that I hadn't because I could use all the help that I can get! I think I probably should have done some more research before jumping into the owning chickens and ducks business head first. I was thinking how hard could it be? Now I'm beginning to find out that there's a lot more involved then feeding, watering them and collecting their eggs!
