In the Brooder
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes. New to chickens. Have not purchased any as of this time.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
None at the moment. I'm waiting on the old man to build the coop before I jump in and make a purchase. I want a coop big enough to hold 16 or more chickens.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Breeds I am interested in purchasing are the Buff Brahmas, however my step daughter went crazy on chickens this year, she has too many for her coop. She can't resist buying new chicks. I get weekly texts from her asking the status of our coop build.
My first flock will be comprised of her overflow.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Hobbies include gardening, canning, machine and hand knitting, crocheting and all needlework, miniatures when I have time.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I work from home (before it became mandatory)
For pets we have 4 dogs mixed breeds and 1 cat that has run of the property.
We live on 33 acres in Tennessee River Valley. Our property is 75% woods the rest pastureland. We had 3 wild turkeys lay eggs on the property this year. Hubby saw half dozen chicks chasing mom into the woods one afternoon. I haven't seen them but, I hear turkey's chatting it up in the woods on a daily basis.
Several deer on the property including a piebald fawn born this year.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Meyer's Chicken site. Was researching ad links off their site.
