Hello All!!
I'm new to the chicken scene..I currently have 10 chickens that are about 8-9 weeks old. I have 6 Rhode Island Red mixed and 4 Araucana. My husband built a coop in our backyard that is fully enclosed. My 14yr old daughter talked my husband into buying 6 chicks before we were ready for them and he originally bought the wrong kind. We wanted egg layers and he mistakenly bought 6 Cornish Hens...lol. We ended up giving those to some friends.
A little about me and my family. I am a RN and my husband and I will be married 18yrs in May. He has 2 older daughters from previous marriages, ages 33 & 23. I have a 20yr daughter who is getting married in June and then we have 2 daughters together, ages 17 & 14. We also have 5 dogs (3 Chihuahuas, a Shih Tzu and a Jack Russel) and 2 cats. It is literally a zoo at our house.
When I agreed to getting chickens, the deal was that I wasn't going to have to deal with them. No cleaning...feeding...etc. Well, that flew out the window per say. I didn't realize that I would actually like them. They already recognize my voice and as soon as I walk in the coop and they hear my voice, they come running. I have found that they are hilarious to watch and I am looking forward to them getting bigger!!
That's about it....I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and all the information available here.
