I have been reading such helpful advice here for years I decided to finally join the community! We are in the Hudson Valley in NY and have a nice crew of chickens. We have the “elders” that are 5 years old now: 2 Australorps, 2 Americanas, and 2 Rhode Island Reds. Then my husband rescued a bantum rooster that was running around in the street of a nearby town. We think he’s about 3 years old. And this spring we added 19 chicks to the crew! “The littles”, who aren’t very little anymore, are a mix of Sapphire Gems (4 hens and one rooster), 4 Rhode Island Reds, 4 Speckled Sussex, and 6 others that we thought were one breed and are questioning the signs on the bins! We think 2 may be Easter eggers/americanas, a few “Rocks”, one barred or rustic rock, one buff rock, and one partridge Plymouth Rock, and we have one that is either a silver laced Wyandotte or an English Orpington. Definitely a beautiful bunch! Looking forward to being more involved and learning and sharing as much as I can. :)
