Hello All! I'm a new member to the group and also new to chickens. I've been planning/reading for a couple years about chicken keeping and have been lurking on this board about that long. I'm married with one daughter. We just moved out of the suburbs and to a better place to keep chickens~which I'm ecstatic about.
We are starting our coop today (Thanks to all of those who post their coop pics, it's been a great help in designing ours). We are planning on keeping a small flock of pullets-2 Silkies and 2 Ameraucanas (for now.) We already have the 2 Ameraucanas on hold and are looking to get two Silkies that might be show quality for my daughter to get involved in 4-H.
I'm a 3rd grade teacher at a local public school and am also considering doing a hatch project with the kids this year or next--so if anyone has ever done that with a class at a school I'd love to hear stories.
