Hi there, new guy starting out and love the BYC website and all the helpful info I find on the message board here. You all are so nice, I'm glad to find this place.

Anyways, I'm building a coop tomorrow and we will be purchasing our first chicks sometime in the near future. Doing a lot of reading and hopefully I'll be here often.

My plans are to build a 4'x4'x4' Coop, hardi side it and build a 4'x8'run. I live near the woods so most of the time I hope to have the chicks free in the yard a lot of the time.

There's the basics.

I wish I had thought to build the coop BEFORE I got my chicks.

I guess I work better under pressure.

Just make sure to predator proof your run and coop and avoid using chicken wire ( terrible stuff). You will have to use caution freeranging as well because we have a lot of hawks here that just love chicken dinners. I wish I had known that before I let my birds out.

Don't forget to ask questions as needed and post pics when you get your new babies.

Hi and thanks! I am a bit worried about the hawks and owls, will they attack when I'm in the yard? Or even on the other side of my house?
