Hello from Florida

I just ordered my very first batch of chicks this morning; they'll arrive next month. Fixing the brooder up in a spare room in the house (not sure if that;s a good idea, but it's the best I can do right now. I'm excited, but I'm brand new to all of this.

Sounds good, does your spare room keep a stable temperature? If so it makes it easier to adjust the heat lamp(s)

Nice to see another Floridian here! What kind of chicks are you getting? We brooded our chicks in the living room and really enjoyed having them where we could watch them easily. Chicks are fun and they change so fast as they grow.

South Tampa Here and fellow newbie. Welcome!
We got our 4 girls 4 and 5 weeks ago and had them set up in my son's room. Yup, had him sleeping in the family room for a bit and closed off the vents for the babes in his room. We'd set the chicks up an old ferret cage with the heat lamp and everything. My hon REALLY wanted them in his room on account of our room shares a wall with his and that gave us the ear to every peep they made and quick access for nervous new baby chick folks. That'd be us.

Then we moved them to family room...but that was short lived. Babies are MESSY! All in all, it worked out fine as frog's hairs and now they're in their "big girl" house outside...with the baby monitor. The Pic you using, that mean you got naked necks?
Enjoy your chick they grow way to fast, it ain't fair at all!
