(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I got my first chickens as six-week-olds in May 2018. I quickly became a victim of chicken math.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? At this moment--eight mature hens, 1 accidental rooster, 3 teenagers, 4 two-week olds, and four eggs in the incubator. Of all those, only four layers. Others are still thinking about it.
(3) What breeds do you have? Brahma, Welsummer, Leghorn, Astralorp, Whiting's True Green, Red Star, Jersey Giant, Easter Egger, Blue Orpington, Spangled Hamburg, Marans, Gold-laced Wynadotte . . . . have lost a Speckled sussex and a light Brahma to Marek's.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Their personalities!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I'm a writer and photographer.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I also have two English mastiffs.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I have known about BYC for years, back when I was wanting chickens. Once we moved into a place where I could have them, I've consulted your threads on everything from incubation/hatching and Marek's. This morning I found another hen--maybe two--displaying signs of Marek's, so I decided to join. I've learned from you all for a long time--maybe my experiences can help someone else.
