Hello from Freedom Trail Farms!

I'm thankful to be added as a member to BYC. Our family started raising chickens this year. 24 meat birds and 26 laying hens. I just finished building a first class movable coop for the laying hens. I'm excited to post some pictures of it soon. I'd like to know what everyone thinks. I also want to say thanks to everyone for the great free advice on this website!

I let my wife pick the breed of laying hens. She decided to get all Buff Orpingtons. I believe she choose that because of their temperament. They do well during the cold winters of Michigan, they lay reasonable well, they can get broody pretty easily, and they put on a decent amount of meat when they are spent.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Buff Orpingtons are a wonderful breed. I raised them for years and they are very cold hardy, calm and gentle (our children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and good layers of large, brown eggs. Sooo... I wanted to share my coop with the group. I'm quite proud of how it turned out. I have a question though. I wrote a blog post detailing step by step how I built the coop. It has a lot of good pictures so everyone can see. I read the group rules and I think it's okay to post the blog article but I'm not 100% sure and I want to respect the rules. Does anybody know if it's okay for me to post the blog? It would be way better than trying to upload random individual pictures. Oh, and I did email admin and ask this same question too. So hopefully I'll hear back from them. Thanks ya'll!
