First of all, great site full of wonderful information. When my husband got the idea to have chickens in our suburban/bordering on rural (we have over two acres but we're pretty close to town) back yard, I have to admit I thought he was crazy. After doing a TON of research (a lot of it thanks to your site), I think this is something our whole family would love. I had no idea so many people did this!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We don't have any chickens yet, but once we finish the research, we're gonna dive right in.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
None yet.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I think I've narrowed it down to either Easter Eggers or Australorps. Some advice would be awesome.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
My husband googled "raising chickens" and there you were.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
* We have three kids, ranging in age from 15 to 3; the oldest are swimmers so that takes up a fair amount of time
* I design and make jewelry, mostly with sterling wire, etc. I'm in my first art show in October, and I'm petrified.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
* Three kids, two dogs and a cat
Again, I'm really glad to have found this website and I'd love any advice anyone has about what breeds of chicken are the friendliest/easiest/most forgiving to a newbie. We're looking to have some eggs, too.
