My husband and I have kept laying hens on and off for a few years. Right now we have one RI red and nine fertile eggs inan incubator (crossing fingers). I am getting pretty obsessive about the eggs we are trying to hatch and found this group searching for info.

Thanks everyone. I am finding lots of good info. Sadly, our three mature chickens ALL got killed this weekend by some predator. I saw the predator section and think it was probably a raccoon or possum. We are setting up a trap and field camera tonight and declaring war on the predators. We are pretty upset. So now I will be even more obsessive about the eggs we are trying to hatch.
