In the Brooder
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Answer: We had chickens before but we bought a new house and were unsure if the HOA would allow them even though it is called Gateway Ranch. We first had chickens about five years ago but life got busy and we moved so we gave them to some friends in our Church. The new area does allow chickens so we are going to try again.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Answer: We have eight chicks that are four days old.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Answer: Gold Sex Link
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Answer: We like the eggs and the great teaching opportunity it gives our city bound grand kids to learn about raising animals.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Answer: I am a flight simulator enthusiast and have my own enclosure for flight simulation in my house. I also travel all over the World for business and pleasure. I am also a scuba diver and love the ocean even though I live in the desert.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Answer: I have three grown children and fourteen grandchildren ranging in age from 1 to 16 years old. The chicks are the only animals we have currently. We had a dog but had to put it down so we decided no more for now. I am a maintainability and human factors engineer (whatever that is?) for a large Aerospace company. I love Aerospace and everything associated with it, planes, museums, simulators.... you get the picture.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Answer: Surfing for information about our new chicks and stumbled upon your website. This is my first time to your site and I read through it and decided I would like to join while we start this adventure of raising chickens for their eggs.
