My wife and I are new to raising chickens. We started about 5 weeks ago. We made the coop and run, then got our 8 chickens. We have a Buff Orpington, a White Plymouth Rock, a Golden Laced Wyandotte, a Dominique, a Rhode Island Red, 2 New Jersey Giants, and 1 that we aren't sure what it is yet. Just this week we went from getting 2 eggs a day to 5. We are really enjoying them so far. We also have 5 dogs so it's been an interesting mix. We only let them free range about 2 hours a day so far. We are enjoying reading all the posts on BackYard Chickens!!
