New here but, have raised and kept chickens off and on most of my life. I'm 50 yrs old and happily married to my high school sweetheart. We will celebrate 30 yrs of marriage in June. We have raised 3 wonderful children (2 sons and a daughter). Now enjoying my 3 grandsons.

I started raising chickens again last year to provide fresh healthy eggs for my grandsons. I have 3 Rhode Island Reds that have been producing 3 eggs per day on average. My family has gotten wind of my little flock and has asked to purchase eggs from me. Unfortunately, I use most of the eggs i get. I decided it was time to get more hens. I figured while I was at it, I might as well get meat chickens also. I ordered 5 Barred Rock pullets and 25 straight run Cornish X from Cackle Hatchery.

The chicks arrived 2/27. I will be posting threads on my adventures with my chickens in the future including pictures along the way. I'm looking forward to the online conversations about each others chickens, coops, feed and all that backyard chickens bring.

Take care,

Dubya D

! Great to have you in our community! Happy you are expanding your chicken horizons! If you like farm fresh eggs, you're going to love farm raised chickens! Cornish X aren't the most handsome things but they taste great! I raise mine to be roasters. Make sure and stop by the Meat Bird thread below if you have questions! Good luck and enjoy!!
