HI! if you couldnt guess, my name is Rachel. I am curently in the process of moving to SC from MI, Quite a change!!! Im 17 years old and breed chickens, rabbits, and ducks to keep as pets and show animals. I do kill, prossess, and eat my animals (Best meat is home grown)!
I have been rasing chickens on and off for about 10 years and have recently gotten into ducks (I have kept some as pets on and off but I just got a breeding trio this spring). I curently have an old black silki bantam rooster (I got him from an old couple who were selling out, he was INFESTED with mites and lice, he was very timid, and his feet were tied together!!! my heart broke for him and I couldnt leave without him) his name is Nigel his mate is a black silkie Bantie crossed with a cochin banti (she is beautifal!!!) her name is Onyx. She just hatched 2 chicks this summer!
my other hen is... somthing that I got from TSC... reminds me of a Milli Flur D'uccle but she is not that fluffy and dosnt have muffs or a beard, IDK but she is cute. I had a breeding trio of them but my other 2 died this last winter

anywho, she hatched 9 babies this summer!!! quite a fue died thow, I THInk she only has 4 or 5 now. they are all adorable, cutest chicks I have ever seen!
My ducks: Hershy is a brown & White Runner Hen & Ducky is a Pekin hen. the two of them are mates (duckys Drake died last winter and she was lonely until she and hershy made friends.) Hershy is a good 3 months younger than ducky-thats why they wernt friends before, accully they fighted over everything. LOL funny how life works sometimes! They layed eggs in the same nest and both went broody over it at the same time. they accully shared the brooding duties. there were 20 eggs, until I picked out the cold ones an left them with 10 (some from each duck). unfortanatly, none of them hatched:/
I also have a trio (2 ducks & a Drake) of Snowy CALL DUCKS!!! I have been trying to get these ducks for the longest time and finally found a breeder who would help me get some for a VERY good price (50.00 for the 3 of them). I am VERY happy with them!!! There accully VERY quiet little ducks.
Thats my hatchery for now but Im going to buy some more from TSC next year (Buff orpingtons mostly. I had them a couple of years ago and loved them). I dont incubate eggs, I let that chore to the hens.
also, I rase rabbits as pets and show animals I love my rabbits. I have Mini Rex mostly but I always have odds and ends and a couple of other breeds at any one time.

Thanks. Yah-It is quite a zoo sometimes especally is the late sping/early summer when everything is breeding (and i cant help myself but to buy some baby chicks from the feed stores). I love working with my animals and I wouldnt trade it for anything. My dad dosnt like birds (any of them!) but other than that we are having a lot of fun. Im the only one who really runs the rabbitry & hatchery (I buy, sell, and take care of the animals. my parents buy the feed and we all pitch in to buy supplys). I love all kinds of animals (excpt hores and cowes....and bull dogs. they scare me) and Im not afraid to get down and wressle with an animal that challenges me (LOL, I had a rooster that would fight with me when I tryed to feed it. It acted like I was a rooster-had to catch it and have my sis hold it until I was out of there (he only was meen to me!). have any of you had that happen?
