We're in the midst of building a coop and have 4 chicks (now pullets) about ready to go out to the coop! Hurry hurry!

1. Not new to chickens - We've had chickens in Alaska before moving to Idaho, primarily layers but also tried our hand at raising 25 rock cornish for meat as well. Now that we're OUT of CC&R and HOA Hell and ON our own acreage, we're finally restoring our lifestyle that we had in Alaska ... got a shop built (where we live now) and the house is on the way ... as is the aforementioned coop!

2. We have 4 chickens now: Red Star (sexlink), Black Star (sexlink), Cinnamon Queen, and a Brown Beauty

3. Breeds - see above

4. Favorite aspects of having chickens? Lifestyle, healthier eggs, and a bunch of lap-sitting pets :)

5. Other hobbies: gardening/grow our own food, fish, hunt, hike, enjoy nature

6. Family? 2 kids out living on their own. We retire in about 3 years. I'm an engineer, and my wife is a school teacher. We have two fantastic English Yellow Labradors.

7. Found BYC via Google, and found what a great forum it is, so we joined

Thanks, Everyone! I'll get some pix posted soon ... the coop is a simple 4x8 coop with shed-type slant roof ... a bit tall since I'm framing it up for a prehung door (I'm a crappy door maker), window on each end ... good ventilation up high, wind protection down low ... the chickens will move to the coop ASAP, and I'll add the run and nesting boxes after they're in ... huff huff hurry! At least I made the brood box big, and 24" deep, so big birds could live there if necessary...
