Hello from IL

Hello! I am new to the world of chickens - my two Silkies will be one year old in April. I have one Rooster and one hen. I just survived my first broody experience. At least I think it's over - no eggs yet. We finished building our new coop just before the cold and snow hit here in Illinois. Anyway, I'm hoping to learn more Silkie-specific information from other small flock owners.

Glad you could join the flock! Silkies are known for being one of the best broody hens around!! Lucky escape for you there! I don't have any myself but a friend does and they are lovely little birds and fantastic with her young children. So soft and gentle like little fluff balls. Silkies are a very popular breed and rightly so. There are several dedicated silkie threads on BYC, mostly by color ie., "Nothing but Partridge silkies," "Paint silkies," "Buff silkies," etc. The largest, longest running thread is my favorite just called "Silkie thread," loads of people there to advise/ help you.
