Hello all, the wife joined (Serenashome) a bit before I did and I've already started posting so I did this a little backwards.
However, I thought I'd go ahead and let everyone know what OEF5 means, since I get questions about it. Operation Enduring Freedom, fifth rotation of troops into Afghanistan.
I've been using this screen name since I got back, so if you've seen a Playstation user name of OEF5, that's me, if you've been on Indiana Gun Owners Forum, OEF5 is still me lol
So yes we have a bit of property in central Indiana, I'm a beekeeper as well (three years of that and still learning and trying to keep bees alive) we have a large raised bed garden that's 744 sq ft of planting space, but total with walkways about 2100 sq ft. We are building a chicken moat around it for the birds and to keep rabbits out.
We have a 40 x 60 pole barn that we are going to use 10' x 8' corner as our coop eventually with an automatic door so they can always be safe inside at night and have roughly 500 sq ft of run around the garden. We are starting with 4 chickens, so technically they will be free range!
My avatar is a picture of the wife an I in DC at the World War II memorial on the US Army "End Tyranny" bench. So we are patriots and "homesteaders" that both work full time, raised three young women, one who just joined the Army, One in College, one a single mom who I am sure you will see future pics of our Grandson within our posts of chickens and coop.
I have enjoyed reading about chickens from a lot of you and even gotten some awesome advice since we don't know anything about raising chickens!
