. The fair is a fantastic place to start for local info which I have found to be very very helpful. We are new to chickens this year and have found BYC to be a fantastic site for all things chicken 
If you do decide to go with mixed ages you will need to keep the chicks separate from the older ones until they are close to the same size. We are currently introducing our younger chicks into the flock now and it's going very well so don't worry it just takes a little patience.
