I've got a lot of information from BYC, so decided to introduce myself. My family and I live in town, so we are restricted to 4 hens, but we love them. Stella, a Barred Rock, is a sweet tempered leader of our little flock; Dory, a silver laced Wyandotte, is our beauty although a bit dim; and Bonnie Blue is an Easter-egger and an escape artist, but lays beautiful pale blue eggs. These are our first hens and we got them last spring.
But, since our coop is suitable for 3 to 4 chickens, we got a buff Orpington, named Tilly this spring.
This sums up our feelings about keeping chickens: We've been looking for a house to purchase, but have ruled out one of our favorite towns around here because they don't allow chickens. Oh, we'll. If we just a little further out, we can increase the number in our flock anyway.
