Hello from Iowa

Hello! I'm also in iowa (se of dsm). We are almost one year into having chickens. We have laying hens both from hoover (we got our first 3 from baumgaars and that's who they used) and we ordered more from mcmurray. All are lovely. Friends of ours use cackle out of Missouri and theirs look great too. If you'd like to see pics of the coop we built or our hens I'd be glad to share. Loads of great info here. I creep and read a lot, but don't contribute much. Welcome!
Thanks for the welcome. I’m located in SE Iowa. Little town of Richland. I’ve been looking at several styles of coops. Would love to see what yours looks like. I’m leaning towards a raised coop just for the shade it would provide under it. I creep a lot too. Lol

We had to build it on the patio. Husband put it on skids, we jacked it up and rolled it with spare fence posts pulling it with a 4 wheeler into its place under a big oak tree. The side I don't have a picture of, is the chicken door with a ramp opposite the big door. Husband built a gravity feeder with a 5 gallon bucket and pvc pipes. I can find pictures of that if you want to see. He's currently making me gravity feeders for grit and oyster shells. The roosting bars are removable for easy cleaning. We stacked hay bales around the base this winter as a wind block during that awful polar vortex. I use solar/rechargeable light bulbs (2 for $20 on amazon) if I need it. I did not run heat out to it this winter, the girls faired just fine.
