Hi there fellow poultry addicts! Long time lurker here finally deciding to join in on the conversations. :) You can call me Tyro, or by my real name, Sid.

I grew up on a farm, and we always had lots of chickens and ducks, but I had never really given serious thought into owning any once I was an adult out on my own. Then one spring day in 2011 my boyfriend came home from the feed store with a box full of baby chicks and ducklings as a present for me! The rest is history. I now have a flock of 30 egg layers of various breeds, two pairs of turkeys, and a pair of Reeves Pheasants. I've fallen quite in love with the exotic pheasants and would like to have more in the future. I'm also a tad bit obsessed with Emus, and they are on the list of things I'd like to own some day.

We're in the process of selling our acreage in Iowa to move out west to Colorado to be closer to friends and family. I also raise purebred Siberian Huskies for work and show and Colorado has been my "home" in my heart ever since my first trip out there.

Sounds like you are having fun. Sure get emus too - they are popular with chicken people in some areas of the country. There are emu threads in the "other backyard poultry" forum .

I would think your Huskies will find the Colorado winters to their liking. I used to show and breed dogs too, many years ago. Lots of dog show people and breeders doing the same with chickens, goats, geese, ducks. Once it's in your blood I think you strive for something better .
