Hello my name is John and I've been stalking BYC for some time looking for and getting great advice re poultry housing. So thanks everyone. I live in the hills north of Malaga and we let out self catering properties. We also farm mangos and oranges on very steep land. Down by my lower water deposit I have fenced off about 100 square metres of shady land for poultry. Our issues here are drought and heat. I have built some colony cages for quail and in time plan to have a few guinea fowl, and a few muscovy ducks. All produce meat and eggs either unobtainable here or very expensive. Industrial chicken meat and eggs are so cheap here that its hardly worth raising chickens for food. If I have chickens at all, I'd like to try "la fleche", though I know they can be tricky and fly. I've certainly seen some beautifully kept animals on this site, but most wouldn't stand the heat where I am. Catalan del Prat and Mos are good heat resistant dual purpose birds, but the magnificent Andalucian is strictly eggs only! i look forward to meeting other members and especially contacting other "hot spot" breeders!
