yes they will go outside when they feel like it. All you have to do is attach a covered run to their coop so they will be able to go in and out at will! You'll want it covered to keep out unwanted predators!

Your birds will be fine with unheated coop or shed. As long they have enough vents and air circulations they will be fine.

Seriously, there's a ton of information. First you need to pick a breed--search "chicken breeds" and decide the breed by weather, size of bird, size of egg, amount of eggs the chicken will lay, and temperment. I picked orpingtons because they are 'spose to be docile....more like fraidy cats and the leader of the pack has taught the rest to fly out of the coop all at once when I open the door--those stinkers.
