I would suggest getting Black or Red Sex Links (or both) if they have them. Not only can they be sexed by color at hatching, but they are egg laying machines. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds and hybrids), and the Sex Links have been my best layers, consistently churning out more than 300 eggs per hen per year. Black Sex Links are frequently sold by local stores under the label Black Star, and Red Sex Links are frequently sold under labels such as Red Star, Gold Star, Gold Sex Link, Cinnamon Queen, Golden Buff, Golden Comet, Isa Brown, HyLine Brown, etc. Male Black Sex Link chicks will be black with a white spot on top of their heads and female chicks will be solid black. Male Red Sex Link chicks will be whitish and female chicks will be reddish. Whatever breeds or hybirds you end up getting, good luck with your flock.
