Hello! Just joined here. Been helping raise chickens and turkeys for almost 3 years on and off now and just recently inherited some chickens from a friend/neighbor. 8 birds, 1 rooster and 7 hens.

This is my first time working with a flock of my own and am very excited! Ironically my bf had previously said hed rather us not have birds, i guess the future held a different story lol.

The coop needs some work so if anyone knows where to get cheap wood, ply wood or 2x4's, or a location for cheap "damaged" wood, id love to hear about it. :)

Kelsie - thanks for the freecycle idea. Didnt find anything this time bu it will be great for thr future too.

Also, ive come across an error message when trying to add breeds to a list:
"your account does not have the required permision to access this page."

Whats that about? I got one on my list and now i get that everytime. :/

Maybe you need more posts, to access the information. For instance you need 20 posts to participate in the Buy,sell, trade forum. Some people get lucky going to lumber yards or areas where housing is going up. The construction workers often leave a pile of discarded stuff behind. Chick people has used old "pallets," in a number of creative ways and loved finding them.

Also look when new large appliances are delivered, often the big wooden boxes are put out to be disposed of. You can make a lot of things out of that.
