I grew up having chickens and raised pigs as well. I guess quarantine started it, our grocery stores ran out of eggs often. I also work with elderly clients and have been grocery shopping for them. Made me realize I have the land might as well grow some of my own produce and raise chickens to produce eggs. Plus they clear the land for me. They get my veggie scraps. I have a massive electric fence set up, my fiance owned a goat buissness for a few years so he got all into the coop and enclosure for the gals.

We went from 4 to 30 quick. We took a mama, Irene, and her 10 babies. We ended up evacuating the chickens (note, not ourselves, lol) for the wildfires near by our home in August and well, Irene is a natural mother. She mated with a rooster she was housed with. When we brought them back home she escaped. We thought she was gone for sure. She ends up showing up at the coop one morning. So I followed her back to her nesting area. Crazy hen had an inground nest with 10 more eggs. So now we have more Irene babies. She is a badass chicken though, ive seen her attack a rat and we've heard from her previous owner she has flown up at hawks to scare them off. Ive always been an animal lover and so adding the girls has just been pure happiness. I look forwarding to hearing more through this group.
