I have been here reading over the last 3 months but finally joined over the weekend. The learning center has been such a big help to me to refresh my memory! This is my 3rd attempt at raising chickens. I have 11 Golden Comets, that are 3 1/2 months old now.I got 6 chicks and decided to get 6 more a week later and all they had left was 5 and that is how I ended up with an odd number. Don't tell my husband but I made sure that the coop we built can house more! After the last time of having all 30 of my chicks killed over my ignorance I decided to start small this time. I didn't make sure my pen was predator proof and lost all of them. This time I wouldn't let them go into the coop without making sure they were safe!
My husband and I are both unemployed so there was very little money to build with and I am very pleased with way my parts and pieced chicken coop turned out~! It is amazing what paint will do to old used lumber!
We just recently increased the size of the pen. And I painted my milk can red and stenciled a rooster on it. And as you can see behind it we live in the woods, so we have to be very careful when it comes to predator proofing!
