I am a fairly new member and started because something got most of my chicks. I've never kept chickens on my own before but recently moved close to my sister and we decided to raise some ourselves. I work in a children's home and we kept chickens a couple of years back and I enjoyed interacting with them at that time and I love farm, fresh eggs.

Glad you could join the flock! Sorry to hear you lost your chicks :hugs That must have been very sad. Do you know what took your chicks? Were they outdoors? Predators really can get in anywhere, being predator proof is one of my top priorities. I lost mine to a fox attack thinking they were safe but the fox still managed to get in and kill everyone. I totally changed predator safety after that and really learned my lesson from it.

Do you have some chicks left? I hope so and that you are now able to keep them safe. Good luck and enjoy BYC :frow
 
Wow, sorry about the loss of your chicks. If you know what type of predator it was, make that run
a safer place according to how that mean critter got in there..like you didn't know .. right? Good luck.

Thanks for the welcome. It is now thought that a dog managed to get the chicks. Instead of getting more baby chicks (I had 5 in another coop) I was able to get some that were about the same age of the ones left and a rooster. These are a cross between a Phoenix and a Lavender Orpington. They are mostly black with some dark green and dark blue feathers. The roo has the Phoenix style ruff (neck feathers) but not as lo.ng a tail as the Phoenix
