Greetings! I am very new to raising/keeping chickens but do have some very good sources. I'm a firefighter and have a few co-workers that have large flocks. We've enjoyed farm fresh eggs at work for quite some time. I look forward to setting up my coop and enjoying all of the benefits of having my own birds.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

So glad you could join our community!

Yes, nothing better than your own farm fresh eggs! Chickens are so much fun to keep as well. They can provide entertainment and affection too.

Make yourself at home here and I hope you start collecting those eggs soon!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Fresh eggs are just delicious and seen to taste even better because you know where they have come from and how the hens have been raised I feel that makes all the difference. Wishing you the very best of luck with your new chicken adventures.

Be sure to ask any questions that you may have, everyone here to help and very friendly :frow

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. My wife and I were both raised in the great state of Texas near to where you are; Blue Ridge (which is also in Collin County) for her, Greenville for me. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your coop and your own flock.

Thanks for the offer to help. I should have my coop set up by end of week and will begin the search for birds. I will let the hens free range in our back yard inside an electric fence that I hope will get our German Shepard at bay. He hates electricity and has done very well with our invisible fence so far. My fear is that a hen may fly over the 48" fence and become dinner. I'm sure we will have some setbacks initially but hope to get streamlined and running soon. Finding hens that our about to begin laying will be the next hurdle. Most suppliers seem to be out.

Thanks for the welcome and well wishes.

Welcome to the Backyard chickens flock. Depending on breed, I think if one hen flies over the fence, others will join her. Your dog could leap the fence easily if his prey drive is stronger than his fear of electricity.
