Hey everyone. I'm from Lytle, TX. Born and raised in San Antonio, TX!! The hubby and I moved out to the sticks to start our little homestead!! We have 3 beautiful children, 15, 10, and 9!! We also have 1 1/2 dogs (black mouth cur, and a tiny Chihuahua, hence the 1/2). We also have a 9 month old pot belly pig, Mrs. Chuffy, and 2 Horses named Django and Doc Holliday!! Now to the good stuff!! We have 2 sexlinks hens and 1 rooster, and 1 barred rocks hens, a little over a year old. We just recently lost 1 sexlink, and 2 barred rocks hens. It was very sad, we are still upset about it. We recently hatched our first set of babies and have 5 little ones running around!! They are 6 weeks old now, and the hubby is going to pick up more eggs to hatch some Americaunas and not sure of the other breed. I came across this site when we were brand new chicken owners and so far, Everytime I Google something BYC comes up, so it's about time I joined!! I'm real excited to be a part of this community and see everyone's posts and questions!!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock and/or other critters, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

I hatched out some Easter Eggers for the Easter Hatch and got some Araucana Hens from a neighbor that has their farm up for sale! The Araucana eggs are medium size - slender and pale blue. Looking forward to see if I have some Easter Egger pullets & the day I get large blue eggs! I'm just getting a flock established. I love the learning center and it has come in handy in the middle of the night with a chick emergency! Welcome! :welcome

That's awesome!! We got our babies about a year ago and I've been trying to talk my hubby into letting me get more but he always tells me no. When our hens died, the neighbors dog got loose and made it into our coop, my hubby finally decided to let me hatch more eggs!! I can't wait!! I'm so excited!!

Hello and welcome to BYC! I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.

Ok, so this is a chicken site BUT I really want to see Mrs Chuffy :gig Please would you share a photo with us?

We raised potbellys when I was younger. They’re so great. Our current city ordinance says you can’t raise pigs which is a bummer. I’d totally get a potbelly otherwise!
