(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am a new chicken convert! Jack-from-the-farm (my expert on all things chicken!) assured me chickens were easy and fun, so here I am!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
8 chicks, 1 week old. We'll probably keep about 4 of them. The aforementioned Jack-from-the-farm gave us the eggs to hatch, and will take back the males/unwanted females.
(3) What breeds do you have?
At the moment I believe they're all Rhode Island Reds. Some could be mixes though, they're just random eggs. The flock they're from are mostly RIR.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
My best buddy google!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Sewing, knitting, general craftiness
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have two kids (5 & 2) who are very excited about their chicks! Also 2 cats, one of whom is a ferocious hunter (the chicks are protected behind two layers of wire). Funnily enough the hunter cat shows no interest in them - and the other cat only really goes in there to hang out with us. Jack-from-the-farm says a full grown hen will take on a cat - besides which we don't intend to really let the hens out of their run so it should be all fine.
