I absolutely love Maine. I was just at Acadia National Park a few months ago. You can learn so much here! I'd definitely check out your local thread in the section Liz posted. Thank you all!! Rather than multi-quoting, I'd like to just make a couple all-encompassing "thank you" posts to keep it brief. I do intend to get some photos of my coop/run once I make more progress.
 
I'll make myself a worklog (for lack of a better term) here, and include my photos of the coop and it's progress as I go. If this isn't an appropriate section--or perhaps there's a better section--feel free (Mods) to move this. Thanks!

So from these, it's a brief look into my area. The chickens will be in the "chicken side" of the barn, which is to say the Eastern side of the barn. The run is nearly complete now, and I will add in the photos of that once I've got them. It extends off the Eastern wall now, and they will have access to it via the window.

Here's a photo update of the coop/run progress. I'd like to call it 95% done at this point...


This is the East side of the barn, where the chickens can exit the coop as they wish and be enclosed in their run.

So here you can get an idea of what I've got to work with. I'll get some measurements of the size of the coop. The run should be 8x16 foot, and the coop is probably in the area of 11x16 or so. I still need to set up some roosting bars, nesting boxes, and I may do a different feeding system aside from my hanging bucket system I setup. We'll see!

It is so funny to me that you used a window! I would hate to clean that long ramp, but the one outside can provide some shade. I expect mine would fly out. Huge space. Let me know when you want to bring your carpentry skills here. I trade in eggs lol
 
I can only hope you were joking on the "carpentry skills". I've never built anything before, or at least nothing that didn't come from a box with directions! Thanks though. It was a fun project. I had a lot of help from my cousin, a buddy of mine, and of course supervision from our respective better halves. The window was already there, and so many people go through issues with their door system...I figured I will just use what's existing (for now). I do plan to tear the window out, and work in a simple door system...I just haven't made it that far yet.

It may be hard to tell, but the entire run is fenced in (top, sides, etc.). I wanted to have something that was a close to predator-proof as possible. My fiancee and I are both gone nearly 12 hours a day due to work, so I can only look after the flock so much. I dug a trench, put the base of the run in the trench, then filled it with quick-crete to not only stabilize, but to deter critters from digging under there to access my run/coop.

I've seen a grey fox lurking the area during the daytime, and I haven't even got birds in the coop yet. I'm not one for killing unjustly, but the next time he gets brave enough to walk into the open, will be the last time he does.

I'd be concerned about freezing. FL doens't really have that problem but... well, Maine gets nippy.
