Hello! We hatched chickens in June and July this summer. We have about 26 birds ranging from Austra Whites, Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rock, Dominiqueand Sapphire Gems. We have about 8 roosters I think. We are getting close to the date where we need to butcher some of the roosters. I’m having a hard time choosing which one to keep. Now one of my RIR hens is acting like a rooster. Her comb is bigger and she is kind of a bully. Maybe she is a Henry and not a Henrietta. I’m not sure exactly how to tell. I have a in home daycare and I’m concerned that if she is a rooster she will become mean to the kids. I have the younger chickens separated for now but will be introducing them to the bigger flock in a couple weeks when they are 12 weeks old. I’m concerned for their safety too with Henrietta. Any suggestions?

:welcome :frow It appears like you do have quite a few males and one of your RIR's is a male. Hatchery/Production Red males are more aggressive than standard (heritage) RIR's. They give the breed a bad rap so people think all RIR males are aggressive. Good luck with your birds and have fun...
