As the title states I am from Manitoba, Canada. We live on a 4 acre lot just outside the city. In 2009 we dug a giant retention pond as we were having major water issues in the back part of our lot. Plus I wanted to have a little bird and butterfly/bee haven. The pond is 60x120 and about 10 ft deep.

Last spring I recieved 2 Rouen and 2 Black Swedish ducks plus a bonus Canada goose. They were all so happy in the pond and the goose was like the mother figure to them. Come this fall the goose flew away and 1 Rouen and 1 Black Swedish got eaten by the fox (
Now we have one of each left and they are living outside in a pallet pen. I have a heated pet pad and a heated water dish for them.

Next spring I want to order 1 Indian Runner, 1 Pekin, 1 White crested duck then 1 Toulouse and 1 white danish goose. Naturally we had a few Canada geese, Mallards, Teals and a few Goldeneye ducks come through and live here for a bit of the summer. I just hope everyone can get along as I like to see geese/ducks with their babies swimming around. Like I said the back lot gets so wet that we have a bunch of bullrush that makes a nice spot for the wild ducks to nest.

So right now I have a small duck house that has 2 pallets for the floor, a enclosed house on one end and an caged in area on the other end. It is dropping temps to -20 at night sometimes and the ducks seem to hang out in their little house. During the day they like to jump into their water bowl and then get frost on their feathers and sit outside? Makes no sense to me, I hope they are staying warm because the temperature will only drop further until the winter is over.

Thanks and hello. I hope to provide and get valuable info on here )
