Hi everyone! My family and I live in Maryland.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We've been raising chickens since March 2017. Expecting our first eggs sometime in the next couple weeks.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We currently have 7. We are building a larger coop/run and plan to expand our hen population in the near future.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Right now we only have Red Sex Link hens, though we plan to get other egg laying breeds.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Googling for information on things to add to our new run. The ladies currently have a decent run, but the new run will be much larger. We built a triangle shaped structure that provides shade and something for them to climb on, and they seem to like it, so I was just looking for other activities/structures to add to the new run.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I also enjoy crochet and family history.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have three kiddos (14, 10, and 4). We decided to raise chickens when we saw how much the kids enjoyed our neighbor's chickens. After some research and lengthy chats with the neighbor, we jumped in. We've had a few bumps along the way, but it has been fun so far and we are glad we did it.
