Hello From Mass.

Orpingtons are great birds! My last remaining original hen is a Buff Orp, and she's a delight.

I think you are making the right decision about holding off on the Rhode Island Reds for now. I can't really tell how large the coop is, but it looks like five full-sized birds would be pretty crowded in it.

Still, a free coop is a lovely gesture by your neighbor, and I hate to waste anything free.

Good luck with those little ones, and welcome to BYC!

Welcome to BYC!
It does indeed look too small. Even 3 birds would be crowded. I think you and your chicks would benefit from a larger coop.
I once saw a prefab coop/run on here that was modified to make a larger coop. I can't recall who's it was, but perhaps another member will.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
It's a curse. I'd build something new and use that temporarily. You can look around for a used shed someone is getting rid of. Look on FB Marketplace, CL or visit your local shed builder and ask what they do with old sheds they remove from peoples properties when they bring in replacements from time to time.

:welcome

Hi, thanks for joining us! You might want to check out the Coops/Runs articles for ideas on how to build a larger coop, some are relatively inexpensive if you can work with repurposed materials. Here are some ideas on pallet coops: 10-stunning-low-cost-pallet-coops.76454 Hoop coops can also be less costly than wooden ones: top-10-hoop-coop-ideas.76490

Best wishes!
