Hi all!
So happy to be here, never thought I'd be raising chickens and LOVING it, but here we are 9 months later and couldn't be happier! Our 4 year old loves chickens (no clue why) and started ogling books like, "Extraordinary Chickens." So we got him the Murray McMurray catalog and he loved it, even had a chicken themed birthday party (complete with a chicken coop cake that I made for him). Soon after, I found myself building an 8x10 chicken coop complete with tiny chicken door, nesting boxes that jut out and open from the outside and fancy tiered roosts inside. It's been a great learning experience, such as DON'T raise 26 baby chicks in a box inside the house (specifically, the toy room) for longer than 3 weeks, NEVER turn off the Hepa filter while doing it, or suffer serious dust and have to close the room while it takes 4 months to thoroughly clean every single thing in the room, ugh! I even taught myself how to use a circular saw, all while sitting 9 feet up in the air on the coop roof cutting plywood for the roof (I SAID it was a learning experience!). We LOVE our chickens, have a blast watching them (better than TV). They free range, they goof around, we're really enjoying them! And now I'm addicted, want more! My husband just shakes his head and wonders when the heck he married a farmer. But here we are, on our farmstead, with bees, chickens, rabbits and boys, loving life!

Glad to be here, looking forward to meeting other happy chicken people!
