Hello from Massillon Ohio!!!!

Hmm, I may have to visit as well, that law is from 85, it's older than I am. There are far more city like areas that allow chickens, even in areas closer to Cleveland. The restrictions to agricultural property is the real problem. I wonder if you could claim they are pets and not agricultural in purpose? Am I not allowed to own birds in massilon, parakeets and or parrots? I think as long as you're on your property you should be allowed, I am disappointed that I purchased a home under these type of restrictions. I should have done more research /:

Yes it's very old and that's why I'm hoping they'll give it a chance of maybe changing it up a bit since urban farming is becoming so popular! And I did research all the surrounding cities and townships and Massillon is the only one that is apparently saying no we can't have them. The other cities and townships have certain guidelines like they must be 50 ft from your neighbors or you must have an acre of land etc etc. We just bought our house little over a year and a half ago and I want to move to the country already! These restrictions and badly worded ordinances are just too much!

I agree, I am not happy either. If they don't want to change I'll probably sell in 5 years and move somewhere more free

I went to the city council meeting last night and spoke and it actually went very well! They are bringing up the issue in their meeting on Monday! After I spoke a man from the newspaper said he might do an interview with me as well. We might be getting somewhere!!! Woohoo!!

That's great, I just realized I love in perry township. I can't seem to find if I can have chickens or not

Perry township goes by the Ohio Revised Code. You are allowed to have them under certain stipulations. I spoke to the zoning officer and he was really friendly and willing to help explain. The only thing I really know off hand is that you have to have more than an acre to have them..at least that's how I perceived it. Just make sure your neighbors aren't weird about it and call Perry just to make sure...
