Hello chicken pals! :frow My name's Liza, based out of Seattle, WA. My partner and I are the caretakers of one sweet 60-pound Catahoula mutt and, as of April/May, 14 cutie pie chicks/pullets:
  • 4 Mosaics - ~8 weeks old
  • 4 Swedish Flower Hens - ~8 weeks old
  • 2 Olive Easter Eggers - ~6 weeks old
  • 4 ISAs, the "little sisters" at ~5 weeks old
We'd wanted chickens for a while for two reasons - 1st, we wanted to be closer in touch with the food that we eat, and we didn't like the idea of eating eggs from production layer chickens who didn't have much of a real life, and 2nd, I just love animals - watching them, learning from them, and having some form of a connection to them. So far, my favorite part has been when all the chickies (except the shy olive eggers) scamper over to the run/coop door when I arrive in the morning to say hello :)

Outside of this, we're very DIY people - I love to sew, make things with clay, and do other arts and crafts. I run the business/computer side of my partner's carpentry business (he holds the hammer and I file taxes etc.).

I've been using this forum as a place to read up on various extremely urgent questions ("is this what a roo looks like at 8 weeks" and "is that poo normal or...?!"), so finally decided to make an account and say hello. Thank you to everyone who contributes here, it's such a precious resource!
