I'm new to BYC (I've been lurking a bit.), and fairly new to owning chickens. I LOVE this forum, it's absolutely amazing. I helped out a lot with my mother-in-law's flock when I lived with her, and had a great time. Up until a few months ago, I lived in a cramped apartment with my husband and two kids in Marietta, and we've moved to Dallas, Georgia and have five acres of land, so we're in the process of designing and acquiring the materials for building a coop. I've never had much to do with baby chicks, so I am sure I'll have a lot of questions for everyone!
At any rate, a little about the ever-growing family. I'm Chelley, I'm originally from Columbus, GA, moved to Marietta with my husband about 14 months ago or so, we've got a two year old son, and a six month old daughter, and a tank full of little fishies. I think we've got 8 fish and 2 eels at the moment. My husband stays involved with motorcycles more than any other hobbies he's got, and I've recently decided that I'd love to have chickens again. It was so calming (aside from being attacked by the RIR rooster at my MIL's house.) and made me happy, and you can't beat farm fresh eggs. I also bake/decorate cakes, and other various confections so I like to use the best things I can when I'm cooking. Not many people ever agree there's a difference in a cake until they eat one made with fresh eggs.
Anywho! Enough here. Time to do more chicken research and whatnot! Again, this is the best site I've ever found as far as chickens are concerned. I'm so glad I found it!
